My Journey to 1000 Kanji: #46-60 (Week 4)

Okay, so it’s on the the next set. ENJOY!

46.子- The Japanese symbol for child. Also the rat in the Chinese zodiac.
On-yomi: シ shi、スsu
Kun-yomi: こ ko
Sentence: 子どものとこ、たくさんえいがいをみました。Kodomo no toki, takusan eiga wo mimashita. When I was a child, I watched a lot of movies.

47.京- The kanji for capital.
On-yomi: N/A
Kun-yomi: キョウ kyou、ケイkei
Sentence: いっしょうに東京にいきましょう。Isshou ni Tokyo ni ikimashou. Let’s go to Tokyo together.

48.国- This symbol means country.
On-yomi:コク koku
Kun-yomi:くに kuni
Sentence: 外国にすみましたか?Gaikoku ni sumimashitaka? Have you lived in a foreign country.

49.外- Outside.
On-yomi:ガイ gai、ゲ ge
Kun-yomi:外、ほか、外す、はずれる
Sentence:わたしは外人です。Watashi wa gaikokujin desu. I am a foreigner.

50.学- This symbol can mean study, science, or learning.
On-yomi:ガク gaku
Kun-yomi:まなぶ manabu.
Sentence:だいがくでか学をべんきょうしていました。Daigaku de kagaku wo benkyoushite imashita. In university I was studying science.

51.大- Big, large.
On-yomi:ダイ dai、タ tai
Kun-yomi:おお oo、おおきい ooki 、おおいに ooini
Sentence:大じょうぶですか? Daijobu desu ka?

52.先-This symbols can mean previous, before, ahead, precedence, or future.
On-yomi:セン Sen
Kun-yomi:さき Saki
Sentence: わたしの先ぞはのうみんでした。Watashi no senzo wa noumin deshita. My ancestors were farmers.

53.生- Life, birth, genuine.
On-yomi:セイ sei、ショウ shou
Kun-yomi:いきる ikiru、いかす ikasu、いける ikeru、うまれる umaru、うむ umu、おう ou、はえる haeru、はやす hayasu、き ki、なま nama
Sentence: 先生、どこ二からきましたか? Sensei, doko ni karakimashita ka? Sensei where are you from?

54.分- Part, minute, understand, know, segment.
On-yomi:ブン Bun、フん Fun、ブ Bu
Kun-yomi:わける Wakeru、わかる Wakaru、わかれる Wakareru、わかつ Wakatsu
Sentence: 日本語が分かりますか? Nihongo ga wakarimasu ka? Do you understand Japanese?

55.左-Left
On-yomi:サ Sa
Kun-yomi:ひだり Hidari
Sentence: 二つめのかどを左にまがってください。Futatsume no kado wo hidari ni magate kudasai. Please turn left at the second corner.

56.右-Right
On-yomi:ウ U、ユウ Yu
Kun-yomi:みぎ Migi
Sentence: かれは右にまがりました。Kare wa migi ni magarimashita. He turned right.

57.出-Exit, Leave.
On-yomi:シュツ Shutsu、スイ Sui
Kun-yomi:でる Deru、だす Dasu
Sentence: かどを出してください。 Kado wo dashite kudasai. Please remove your card.

58.口-Mouth
On-yomi:コウ Kou、ク Ku
Kun-yomi:くち Kuchi
Sentence: 口をしめてくれ。Kuchi wo shimetekure. Shut your mouth.

59.北-North
On-yomi: ホクHoku
Kun-yomi: きた Kita
Sentence: 北口にあいましょうか? Kitaguchi ni aimashouka? Shall we meet at the north entrance.

60.南-South
On-yomi:ナン Nan、ナ Na
Kun-yomi:みなみ Minami
Sentence:アメリカの南にからきました。America no minami ni kara kimashita. I am from the southern U.S.

I apologize for any Japanese grammatical mistakes. I did the best I could. It’s not perfect, but it’s a great way for me to get some practice in.
