My Journey to 1000 Kanji: #61-75 (Week 5)

Here is the next set of kanji, numbers sixty-one to seventy-five. I did the best I could making the sentences, they may not be completely natural, but we all have to start somewhere, right? I’ve also decided to start adding some video to these so I can practice writing the kanji in the correct stroke order. I hope it helps you to learn more about the Japanese writing system, and helps me remember more in the process.

61.聞- The kanji for listen.
On-yomi:ブん、モン
Kun-yomi:きく、きこえる
Sentence:聞いてください。Kiite kudasai. Please listen.

62.新- The kanji for new.
On-yomi:シン
Kun-yomi:あたらしい、あらた、にい
Sentence:新しいじてんしゃをかいました。Atarashii jitensha wo kaimashita. I bought a new bike.

63.員- The symbol for member.
On-yomi: イン
Kun-yomi: N/A
Sentence: しごとはなんですか?会社員です。Shigoto wa nan desu ka? Kaishaindesu. What do you do? I’m an office worker.

64.帰- To return.
On-yomi:キ
Kun-yomi:かえる、かえす
Sentence: パーテェのあとうちに帰ります。Pati no ato uchi ni kaerimasu. After the party I will go home.

65.文- Sentence.
On-yomi:ブん、モン
Kun-yomi:ふみ
Sentence:文学はわたしのせんもんです。Bungaku wa watashi no senmon desu. My major is literature.

66.入- To enter.
On-yomi:ニュウ
Kun-yomi:いる、いれる、はいる
Sentence:入り口はどこですか?Iriguchi wa doko desu ka? Where is the entrance?

67.語- This is the Japanese symbol for word.
On-yomi:ゴ
Kun-yomi:かたる、かたらう
Sentence: 日本語のするのがへたです。Nihongo no suru no ga heta desu. I am bad at Japanese (doing Japanese).

68.毎- The Japanese symbol for every.
On-yomi:マイ
Kun-yomi: N/A
Sentence:毎日からてをします。Mainichi karate wo shimasu. I do karate everyday.

69.小- Small.
On-yomi:ショウ
Kun-yomi:ちいさい、こ、お
Sentence:わたしのへやはとても小さいです。Watashi no heya wa totemo chisai desu. My room is very small.

70.会- This character means to meet.
On-yomi:カイ、エ
Kun-yomi:あう
Sentence:きれいな女の人に合いたいです.Kireina onna no hito ni aitai desu. I want to meet a beautiful woman.

71.社- This character means company.
On-yomi:シャ
Kun-yomi:やしろ
Sentence:しょうがつ休みはアメリカにいくつもりです。Shogatsu yasumi wa America ni ikutsumori desu. I am planning to go to America during my New Year’s holiday.

72.父- Father.
On-yomi:フ
Kun-yomi:ちち
Sentence:わたしの父は五十八さいいです。Watashi no chi chi wa go jyu hassai desu. My father is fifty-eight years old.

73.母 Mother.
On-yomi:ボ
Kun-yomi:はは
Sentence:わたしの母はしんせつなひとです。Watashi no ha ha wa shinsetsuna hito desu. My mom is a kind person.

74.高 The Japanese symbol for high. See if you can find this symbol in my “How to Use a Japanese washing machine post.
On-yomi:コウ
Kun-yomi:たかい、たか、たかまる、たかめる
Sentence:このてれびは高いですね? Kono terebi wa takai desu ne? This TV is expensive isn’t it?

75.校- School.
On-yomi:コウ
Kun-yomi: N/A
Sentence:高校生のとこ、たくさんかがくをべんきょうしました。Kokosei no toki, takusan kagaku wo benkyoushimashita. When I was in high school, I studied a lot of science.
