It’s Snowing in Tsukuba!

For the three years that I’ve lived here in Tsukuba, I’ve seen snow about six times, and only about two or three of those times did the snow actually stick. When I say stick, I mean you can just see remnants of snow in the grass for about a day. I’ve never seen any sledding, snowmen, or snowball fights here in Tsukuba. It does get cold, but as far as winters go, it’s really not all that bad. If you think about some of the northern parts of Japan, i.e. Hokkaido, it gets much much colder.

I woke up this morning with a sluggish yawn, I was using the last of my paid vacation days, and opened my curtains to a morning surprise…snow! You know sometimes when it snows, you get the small, uninspiring, blah type flurries? Well, not this time. It was those large, distinct, drifting type of snowflakes…the kind of make you go “Wow…” I started to see white accumulating on the streets, on cars just outside of my apartment, on the rooftops. The snow was sticking! Or so I thought, anyway. I was so looking forward to going outside in my inadequate winter gear and having some time to play in the snow. But alas, by about noon, everything was gone.

Seeing snow always makes me happy even if it’s only for a fleeting moment. I consider it good luck when it snows in Tsukuba, so maybe things will look up soon.

Well, I guess it’s time to do some more packing. I have to be out of my apartment by February 20th. Not much time left, ne?

Talk to you later,

Donald Ash

Wow! It looks awesome! I can’t even image how beautiful it must look under the neon glow of Tokyo!

Well, I’m not actually in Tokyo, but it did look awesome. You definitely have to see it when you have the chance, Ryan! :)
